Senior staff
With a specialty in financial analysis and management, Stacey Donnelly serves as director of sponsored research and planning at the Broad Institute. She has been involved in assembling an enormous portfolio of grant applications for federal and non-federal institutions and oversees more than 80 grant applications annually at the Broad.
David Erlandson is responsible for the planning and implementation of all facilities services for the institute, including maintenance for the institute's facilities systems and structures. David has experience in facilities management and engineering, and has over twenty years experience in higher education and private industry.
As deputy director and chief operating officer, Alan Fein played a lead role in the planning and development of the newly founded Broad Institute. He has had a long and distinguished career in senior management roles at universities, including Harvard and the University of Chicago, and a year as acting president of Lesley College.
Patrick Kleyn brings a strong background in biomedical research to his role as director of scientific planning. Before joining Broad, Patrick served as chief scientific officer at Gemini Genomics in Cambridge, UK, and as the project leader responsible for Millennium Pharmaceutical's first major genetic discovery. Patrick received his Ph.D. in molecular genetics at University College, London.
Diane MacDonald brings disciplined resource management and a penchant for establishing financial processes that propel organizations forward to the position of chief financial officer. Diane has charted a successful career in non-profit and public sector management roles as a strategic problem solver, including a 3-year stint as the City of Boston's budget director.
Jill Mesirov is chief informatics officer of the Broad Institute where she directs the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Organization. Her current research interest is computational biology with a focus on algorithms and analytic methodologies for pattern recognition and discovery with applications to cancer genomics, genome analysis and interpretation, and comparative genomics.
Fintan Steele is the Broad Institute's Director of Communications, using his significant experience in scientific communication to help ensure that the Broad's mission and achievements toward realizing that mission are accurately and compellingly conveyed inside and outside the Institute. Fintan returned to this role at Broad in 2008 from Feinstein Kean Healthcare, where he was the Executive Vice President for the Life Sciences practice.
As director of advanced information technology, Bruce Walker is responsible for the computing resources at the Broad Institute. Bruce has a thorough background in developing high-performance computing applications for scientific use.
